In this version of the Endemol game show, the contest has 22 boxes to choose from. These red boxes are labelled 1-22 and inside each box there is a white label stating the prize money value of that box. Note that these boxes are all sealed and checked by an independent adjudicator and that the shows presenter, banker and contestants are clueless about the value of each box.

There are 22 other contestants on the show that are standing behind each box. These contestants have no role in the game show as such, but may be interacted with by the presenter and asked for advice by the main contestant. Their main purpose on the show is to open the box in front of them when asked to do so by the main contestant.

Before the game starts, the contestant on the show chooses one of the 22 boxes (and doesn’t open it) that may contain their potential prize money. This box is left on the table in front of them and is not touched until the end of the game. The first round of the six rounds in the game will now start. This round the contestant opens five boxes and each round after this they only have to open three boxes.

Once the contestant opens the box, the prize money value inside the box is wiped of the screen that shows the various sums of money available. At the end of each round, the banker (an anonymous, witty and brazen character) rings Noel Edmonds with an offer to present to the player based on the sums of money left.

Typically the amount offered is half the average of the sums of money left. Obviously the contestant strives to wipe all the lower values and keep the higher values to increase the bankers offer.

This is the general strategy of the game. Upon the bankers offer, Noel Edmonds asks the contestant the question; Deal Or No Deal? If the contestant says deal, they go home with the sum the banker offered. If they say no deal, they continue with the game and proceed to the next round.

After the sixth round, there will only be two boxes remaining – the initial box chosen at the start of the game and another box that wasn’t selected. Everyone knows the values of the boxes, but they don’t know which box contains which prize. The banker makes one final offer to the contestant and if they reject this final offer, they will then have an offer to swap the boxes provided the 1p and/or £250,000 is still in play.
