How To Play Deal Or No Deal

The game of Deal Or No Deal involves three main players, the contestant, the banker and the host of the show. At the start of the game, the contestant must choose a briefcase. Each briefcase is numbered between 1 and 26. The contestant’s briefcase will not be opened until the contents of every other case has first been revealed. Each briefcase contains a piece of paper that designates its monetary value. These values range between one cent and a cool million dollars*.

Deal Or No Deal when played to the very end has seven rounds. In the first round the player must select 6 briefcases. After selecting a briefcase, the case is opened and the value within is revealed. This number is then removed from the list of remaining prizes. After eliminating 6 briefcases, the banker will then make an offer to the contestant and the contestant must decide whether or not to accept the banker’s offer, i.e. “deal” or “no deal”

The banker’s offer will always be based on the value of the remaining boxes, so the aim of the game for the contestant is to eliminate as many of the lower value cases as possible without eliminating the high value cases. The higher the value of the remaining cases, the higher the banker’s offer will be and vice versa.

After the first 6 cases have been picked, there are 6 more rounds played out. In each of these rounds, the player chooses 3 more briefcases. After the values are revealed, the banker will make a new offer which the player may accept or reject. This cycle continues until one of two scenarios takes place; firstly and most commonly, the player will accept one of the bankers offers.

The second scenario is far less common though has occurred – only two briefcases remain, the contestant’s original pick and one other. The banker will then make a final offer to the contestant. If they reject the offer, they open their briefcase to reveal the prize they’ve won.
